Works cooperatively with the perinatologists to provide glucose management.
Maintains written records.
Demonstrates an understanding of the diabetes treatment strategies in pregnancy.
Demonstrates competency is interpretation of insulin pump and continuous glucose monitoring data.
Assesses learning needs and delivers diabetes self-management education to patients and families seen for individual consultation or in group settings.
Develops, evaluates and uses current educational methodology and instructional media to enhance the learning experience of the patient.
Participates in the continuing education of nurses, dietitians, housestaff and other health care professionals.
Participates in research.
Assists in the planning and delivery of diabetes seminars for professionals and the lay community
Maintains active membership in professional groups related to diabetes and nursing, demonstrates willingness to evaluate own nursing practice, participates in diabetes-specific continuing education programs, reads the diabetes and nursing literature in order to remain current with the trends in diabetes and pregnancy.
Education: Bachelor's of Science in Nursing, required. Master's Degree, preferred.
Certified Diabetes Educator, required.

Experience: Two years minimal medical nursing experience, required.
Skills: Ability to read, write and communicate effectively utilizing the English language, required. Ability to interact effectively with physician, patient, staff and other healthcare professionals, required. Basic computer skills, required. Bi-lingual (Spanish) strongly prefered.
