New England Is Best Place for Working Dads
Just in time for Father's Day, comes a report from Wallet Hub declaring Massachusetts the best state for working fathers.
On each of the four broad categories Wallet Hub looked at – child care, health, work-life balance and economic and social well-being – the state ranked either 1,2 or 3 among the 50 states and District of Columbia.
Multiple elements were weighted in each of the categories, giving Massachusetts an overall score of 75.38, well above Connecticut and New Jersey, which came in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Wallet Hub broke out a few of those individual elements showing the states in the top 5 and those at the bottom. For example, Mississippi ranks #1 for having the lowest cost for child-care. Nebraska has the highest cost. But in weighting the various, child care costs were worth only 3.75 points out of the 30 for the category.
Interestingly, out of the 10 highest ranking states, half are in New England. Maine is the only New England state not to make the top. It ranked 20th.
The worst state for working dads? That would be Louisiana, which scored in the bottom give in three of the four major categories.
